We’ve been away awhile, I know, but waking up this morning to the cascades of water sleighing gleefully down the tarmac hill outside my bedroom window presents a hook too sharp not to hang this prime slab of punk meat upon. Seattle’s Talbot Tagora are three – Mark Greshowak and Chris Ando man guitars, Ani Ricci reins in with drums – and ‘The Weather Man’ is sodden gutter-grunge, vocals heckling guitars that give about as much of a fuck as Ben Willis’s waders.

The opera singer two doors down wails from his townhouse pulpit nonetheless – classics abide I suppose. Talbot Tagora don’t seem very keen on abiding, opting instead to turn the screw that binds them as the song ascends in repetitious, childlike clatter, their ratchet a hatchet swinging and severing ‘til uproarious death.

You may’ve noticed something else there, too – we don’t usually repeat the posts of others, but the phaseone remix of Panda Bear’s ‘I’m Not’ that Gorilla vs Bear ran with today is too fine to resist; punctuating the original’s humid chromatics with handclap cracks that swing in time with Jay Dee’s glorious lope, also finding room for the ghetto-slasher key jolts and hi-hat tension of ‘Sky’s the Limit’, the A-side of Silkie’s latest release for Mala’s Deep Medi imprint. Given that everything in that last paragraph is gold, it’s no surprise that this is too.
