Lurching out lurid like the deformed theme to some Egyptian soap opera you hope to come across while switching from QVC to bidTV, the frenetic hooks of ‘Gold Ghost’ owe their tails to various global corners. Born in Frankfurt to Chinese parents and having grown up in Hong Kong, Bangkok, San Francisco, Tokyo and now London, the Radiant Dragon we’re blathering on about is the solo guise of a certain Larry Ming Long Lek. Garish in design, Radiant Dragon’s muted funk epiphanies began after Lek was struck into action following a Orthrelm and Gang Gang Dance performance he saw back in 2003 when Bougatsos and co. were more concerned with neo-tribalism than post-Timbalism. Lek’s moves are not far removed from the same Middle Eastern sound bins Rainbow Arabia have been ravenously eating from, albeit with a certain ambient sheen. Hoping to self-release a debut EP, Island, before the New Year, these colour-soaked, vomit-stricken instrumentals will leave you giddy.
