Following a reported crack-addled stint on the streets, karaoke performances and his apparent death, Daniel Dumile returns. But rather than showing any slackjaw from choking pipes Born Like This seems to find DOOM sharper than he was prior to any apparent troubles, with the usual daydream absurdities more enticing than ever. Other than the obligatory Dilla rub in the case of ‘Lightworks’ and this number, ‘Ballskin’, produced by Jake One, DOOM seems to be coming into a second blossom, the record entirely produced by the Metal Fingered maniac. If nothing else it features ‘That’s That’, where the New Jersey emcee bawls one out. And there are few things more rousing than when this drunk uncle finds his throat.

Durty Protest

Out on Toronto street corners from dusk ’til dawn, Little Girls peddle the purest scuzz junk. Both tracks are soon out via Captured Tracks; Brooklyn based aesthetes for the similarly fidelity shy Blank Dogs, Dum Dum Girls and the Beets, as well as the UK’s own Wetdog and Graffiti Island.
