Flotsam flux

The very good folk at Glasgow’s LuckyMe x Wireblock conglomerate have re-up’d some of Hudson Mohawke’s classic 2008 ‘Ooops!’ EP. He’s got a scattered new LP - which half sounds like it’s come straight outta of Wham City - due on Warp this fall, but this is him at his boundlessly inventive, genre splicing best. Also - in completely accidental duplicity - he’s playing our Nail the Cross festival next month.

Here are two new productions probably from Zomby. I guess he wants you to hear them.

Barbadan

Ghost Hunter stalks lithe prey through gleaming wetworks of Cristal future, getting his air from bubbles and other odd things like that, in amid the pink fluid spats and rainbow melt. In ‘Barbados Island’ Verrecchia puts the Impressionist wash on the work of sharper bassland sentries; the weirdo synth flutter of Lone and FaltyDL submerged in a weighty bloom of synth pollen and dewdropped Teengirl Fantasies.

Verrecchia is from Sheffield, and has a release out now through the admirables at Enough Records.

We’re pleased to say the debut single - ‘Candy Girl’ / ‘You Wish You Were Red’ - from Trailer Trash Tracys is out through No Pain In Pop on 7″ only now. Order it here.

Debut single-of-the-year contender.. overwhelmingly gorgeous.
Gorilla vs Bear

A brilliant slice of woozy guitars, hazy vocals and noise pop.

No Pain In Pop’s New Cross noise-pop farm continues to reap a rich harvest..

Nail the Cross 2009

No Pain In Pop and Adventures in the Beetroot Field’s annual festival of new bands, producers and art - Nail the Cross - is taking place on Saturday October 10th in our native New Cross. After last year’s trist with Domino, we’re pleased to announce that this year we’ve got the good people at Hyperdub involved. To celebrate their upcoming fifth anniversary they’ll be hosting a stage with the legendary Kode9 + Spaceape, Joker, Ikonika and a very exciting live set from Darkstar. There’s lots beyond this too - with Hudson Mohawke, Banjo or Freakout, Male Bonding, Arch M, Forest Swords, Trailer Trash Tracys and many more playing - as well as art curated by Off Modern and Take Courage. Click the poster for the full line up, read more details and then buy limited £10 tickets here.

Here’s a teaser of what to expect from the Hyperdub side of things - an Ikonika set from Ustream last night.
