She slunk away and fell asleep, beneath a tree in electric swamp; propped up where the dogs won’t find her, away from me in electric swamp. Ghost Hunter’s remix of E.Gold and Alexis’s ‘Separate Our Hearts’ has dreams riddled neon in opportune hidey-holes, full of baleful, searching light and swung by womb-bound heart beats. Seattle’s Grave Babies stay loyal to their undead schtick - a glance at track titles from last year’s Deathface cassette (out through Skrot Up) reveals ‘Eating Babies’, ‘Demons’, ‘Graves’ and ‘Blood Forever’. Doom-eyed and downhearted, they’re not all bite, bite, bite. Their melancholy is as indebted to Eighties post-punk and industrial as it is to Misfits, all crudely trapped beneath familiar lo-fi gauze-glow. It’s a sound that makes being undead seem like a solid life choice and one you’d revel in, if blood were something you could revel in.
