Decade-long fade-out

Too uncool for school? There are only three things we know about Cloud Nothings, pictured above. The first is that they’ve been kicked out of every educational institution they’ve ever been enlisted in for playing truant. The second is that their lo-fi is better than your lo-fi. The third is that you can get at that lo-fi on a CD out before month’s end through the Californian heroes of Bridgetown Records.

just the way it turned out

Soap box joyride and Slush Puppy fatalism from Seattle’s worryingly named Gape Attack!. I suppose this was what 2009 must have sounded like.

Low, low church

Still up from Halloween? Loosen that headswell with some sparse, weird ambiance at London’s the Lexington on Wednesday night, courtesy of a rare UK outing for Kranky’s plaintive and poignant pairing of Benoit Pioulard and Boduf Songs, plus A Grave With No Name, whose debut album ‘Mountain Debris’ is out later this month. No Pain In Pop DJs also feature, and tickets are online here. Also worthy of a fitting but fleeting mention is the new CS from Word Wood Salad, due out on Hockey-Rawk shortly.

FLY-FI

Peepholes are from Brighton and play lo-fi music, but don’t let that get your backs up - their ‘Airforce Trainer’ tears, static scream surging like rips jets made in the cloth of the skyline. Why are vapour trails always utopian? Why are vapour trails always Utopian?
