Flotsam flux

The very good folk at Glasgow’s LuckyMe x Wireblock conglomerate have re-up’d some of Hudson Mohawke’s classic 2008 ‘Ooops!’ EP. He’s got a scattered new LP - which half sounds like it’s come straight outta of Wham City - due on Warp this fall, but this is him at his boundlessly inventive, genre splicing best. Also - in completely accidental duplicity - he’s playing our Nail the Cross festival next month.

Shaftless arrow / stringless bow

As the more brained mainstream proponents of US hip-hop and Rn’B begins to endorse rhythms that conduct dances thus far unseen on Britain’s universal sticky, satellite town dancefloor, so a new generation of UK beat bane, lead by Hudson Mohawke, became Timabaland-esque presences on our top ten; re-configuring notions of popular rhythm as grime’s predatory thug embraced, with the collateral of making British rap artists commercially viable for the first time.

Fast-forward - June 29th brings Glasgow’s LuckyMe collective the first union of old voice with the new beat. Nadsroic over HudMo - a ghost ship Lumidee.

Jungle Slurry

As so many start tripping over tails in an attempt to glue together something in at least the same field as Los Angeles – a record both soaked in waves of static but retaining some dancefloor ingenuity – most seem content to just head down a cul-de-sac of idle IDM frivolity. Alongside LuckyMe’s recent On-Ra 7″ however, one producer who’s proving to be the latest master tailor of hypnotizing instrumentals is Vienna’s Dorian Concept whose sound picks at the chip chaos of Quarta330, humble funk of Prefuse 73 and the crippled crunk of Rustie. Following the sunken steps of the precursory The Fucking Formula 12″, When The Planets Explode (available to suck on at Rush Hour and out through Nod Navigators) is due around the time the Austrian auteur heads over for a performance at Cargo on January 24.
