Let it slow

Over the last few years Baltimore has been quietly squeezing out numerous bands you’ve probably already fallen in love with. Let’s hope the next will be Happy Family, proud parents of a new EP and triumphantly sun-gliding the same head-spinning cloud trip as recent Atlas Sound and Washed Out efforts. Speaking of Washed Out, he may have been around the internet a lot since we hosted a few tracks a while back, but as long as he’s coming up with tracks as wrought and perfect as ‘Feel It All Around’ the chances of his wavve breaking soon are pretty slim.

When an odyssey ends

Resuming the fight between up-beat melancholy and a lo-slung shuffle, Washed Out may be from Columbia, South Carolina but they string far closer to our favoured West Coast set of Nite Jewel, Ariel and Geneva Jacuzzi than the 2120 miles between them may suggest. They’re all at a different game of course, but I wouldn’t doubt synths so hallowed they’re positively transcendental couldn’t form some kind of ethereal coast straddling plane and meet in the middle. Also, it’s been around the web for a while but here’s Pearl Habour playing Coleridge through Brian Wilson - another solid gold heart stealer.
